Emergency Fund
In addition to funding our major grants, GT raises money for our Emergency Fund, which does not use annual membership contributions. Special events and other fundraising throughout the year provide the money, which helps our community in crisis situations and aids individuals and families with immediate financial needs. These include a month’s rent to avoid eviction, a utility payment to keep the lights on, or coverage of a medical emergency.
Traditionally, the GT Emergency Fund makes an annual award to the Greater Washington Community Foundation’s (GWCF) Neighbors in Need Montgomery program, where GT’s contribution is matched 100%. We’ve also dedicated fundraisers to the GWCF Emergency COVID Response Fund, the countywide Food for Montgomery initiative, and refugee resettlement in the Greater Washington area.
